Who We Are
Mission & History
Project HIRED Industries

In addition to the generous support of our volunteers, donors, and corporate partners, Project HIRED maintains a portfolio of programs that support our mission by creating employment opportunities as well as educating and training employers of job seekers with disabilities. Since 1995, these programs have helped our clients better develop their marketable skills, offered employers with enterprise-grade training, and provided support for Project HIRED financially.

  • Project HIRED and AbilityOne: Creating Jobs for Clients

The AbilityOne Program creates jobs and training opportunities for people who are blind or who have other severe disabilities, empowering them to lead more productive and independent lives. Its primary means of doing so is by requiring Government agencies to purchase selected products and services from nonprofit organizations employing such individuals.

Since 1995, Project HIRED has been a proud, award winning partner of the Ability One program as one of its non-profit agencies. AbilityOne nonprofit agencies (NPAs) manage 29 contact center contracts and 33 switchboard operation contracts, employing approximately 1,000 people with disabilities nationwide. Project HIRED and its partner NPAs handle volumes exceeding 17 million contacts annually, 24/7, 365 days per year.

Currently, as an Ability One NPA, Project HIRED provides employment opportunities for 50 people with severe disabilities at Northern California Veterans Administration hospitals in: Palo Alto, San Francisco, Mather, Fresno, and Livermore. Positions involve call center and medical clerk responsibilities.
